4A baseball, softball pairings set

Blythewood and Lexington are No. 1 seeds as postseason play begins on Thursday.

The pairings for the first round of the Class 4A state baseball and softball playoffs on Thursday are set.


Defending state champion and reigning Region 5 champ Lexington (16-7) opens its title defense at hone against Midlands rival Ridge View (13-12) in District V. Blythewood (17-6), Dutch Fork (17-6) and Richland Northeast (16-8) also earned first-round home games. Region 4 pennant winner Blythewood meets Laurens in District II. DF and RNE are No. 2 seeds. Dutch Fork hosts Carolina Forest in District VII and Richland NE welcomes J.L. Mann in a District III contest. As No. 3 seeds, Lugoff-Elgin (13-10) and White Knoll (11-12) are on the road. L-E is off to face Summerville in District VI, while WK is at West Florence.


Blythewood (20-6), Lexington (15-6), Dutch Fork (20-5) and Lugoff-Elgin (19-3) have earned first-round games. Blythewood won the Region 4 championship, marking the ninth pennant in nine tries for the program. The Bengals host Greenwood in District II. Lexington and DF shared the Region 5 titles, but Lexington emerged as the No. 1 seed. The Wildcats host cross-dam rival Irmo (8-10) in a District V game that is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, not Thursday. Dutch Forks hosts Spring Valley (13-10) in another all-Midlands confrontation in District VI. L-E welcomes Hillcrest in District III play. White Knoll (8-18) travels to face No. 1 seed South Florence in District VI.
