No rest for four 4A Midlands teams

Blythewood baseball and softball and Dutch Fork baseball teams out to advance to the district finals round with semifinal wins tonight. Spring Valley hosts White Knoll in a softball elimination game.

Four Midlands teams in the Class 4A baseball and softball playoffs get back to work on Friday.

Blythewood’s baseball and softball teams host second-round District 2 game today at 6:30 p.m. Dutch Fork’s baseball team will host Wando in a District 8 semifinal at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, Spring Valley hosts White Knoll in a District 6 softball elimination game at 6 p.m.

The defending Upper State champion Bengals baseball team (18-6) managed just three hits in their opener against Laurens, but prevailed by a 4-3 count. Blythewood takes on Fort Mill, a 3-2 winner over Gaffney, with the survivor advancing to the district championship round on May 7.

In softball, the Bengals (21-6) take on Clover. Blythewood was a 5-0 winner over Greenwood last night, while Clover romped, 7-0, against Boiling Springs. The teams have never met in postseason play.

Dutch Fork (18-6) has a surprise home game against Wando, which upset top seed Ashley Ridge, 2-1, last night. The Silver Foxes, the No. 2 seed in District 8, are looking to reach the district finals for the first time in three years.

White Knoll (8-19) is coming off a first-round loss to South Florence, while Spring Valley suffered a setback at Summerville.
