Brookland-Cayce put Swansea’s Redgion 5-3A girls soccer championship celebration on hold with a 1-0 win over the host Tigers Thursday at Doug Bennett Stadium.
In the process, the Bearcats presented coach Katie Smith with her 100th win in sixth season as the B-C head coach. Smith is 100-37-6 at the Bearcat helm. Swansea was a 3-1 winner in the first meeting on April 8 at The Cage.
Angeles Pinnacho tallied the only goal of the match for the fourth-ranked Bearcats (14-6 overall, 7-2 in region).
The win allowed B-C to move within one game of Swansea in the loss column, but the third-ranked Tigers (14-4, 6-1) should have little trouble running the table to the region title in its final three region games against Gilbert, Strom Thurmond and Midland Valley – a trio with a combined 3-27 record to date.
