Here’s an overview of the 2014 state boys soccer playoffs:
First round results: J.L. Mann 4, Nation Ford 0; South Pointe 4, Wade Hampton 2; Irmo 3, Easley 0; Northwestern 3, Riverside 2; Fort Mill 4, Mauldin 1; Blythewood 3, T.L. Hanna 1; Dorman 1, Clover 0; Greenwood 5, Woodmont 1; South Aiken 4, Richland NE 1; Bluffton 3, Stratford 2; Aiken 3, South Florence 1; Ashley Ridge 2, Spring Valley 1; Wando 2, Fort Dorchester 0; Dutch Fork 3, Carolina Forest 1; Summerville 5, West Ashley 2; Lexington 4, West Florence 1.
Second round matches: Northwestern at Irmo; Blythewood at Fort Mill; Dutch Fork at Wando; Lexington at Summerville.
4A notes: Irmo has never faltered in the first round of the state playoffs, at least since 1978 – the first season the Yellow Jackets qualified for the championship match. Irmo magic works in the second round, as well. The Jackets are 34-2 in second-round outings since 1978. The so-called early exits happened in 1984 and 2006 Blythewood heads to Fort Mill with the goal of advancing past the second round for the first time at the 4A level. The Bengals made it as far as the third round in 3A in 2008.

Second round matches: Chapin at Eastside; A.C. Flora at Seneca; Greenville at River Bluff; Dreher at Walhalla; Swansea at Myrtle Beach; Gilbert at James Island; Airport at Socastee; Hilton Head at Brookland-Cayce.
3A notes: A.C. Flora has won six straight first-round matches since 2009 ... River Bluff is the first rookie program to win its first state playoff game in 3A postseason annals A win by Brookland-Cayce over defending state champion Hilton Head will send the Bearcats on to the third round for the 14th time 1996.
Midlands first round results: Crescent 5, Batesburg-Leesville 0; Saluda 4, Columbia 1; Pendleton 11, Fairfield Central 0.
