Here’s an overview of the 2014 state boys soccer playoffs through the second round of play:

Class 4A

First round results: J.L. Mann 4, Nation Ford 0; South Pointe 4, Wade Hampton 2; Irmo 3, Easley 0; Northwestern 3, Riverside 2; Fort Mill 4, Mauldin 1; Blythewood 3, T.L. Hanna 1; Dorman 1, Clover 0; Greenwood 5, Woodmont 1; South Aiken 4, Richland NE 1; Bluffton 3, Stratford 2; Aiken 3, South Florence 1; Ashley Ridge 2, Spring Valley 1; Wando 2, Fort Dorchester 0; Dutch Fork 3, Carolina Forest 1; Summerville 5, West Ashley 2; Lexington 4, West Florence 1.

Third round matches: Irmo at J.L. Mann; Blythewood at Dorman; Lexington at Wando.

4A notes: All three surviving Midlands teams are on the road on Saturday Third-ranked Irmo avoided an unusually early exit with a shootout win over Northwestern. The Yellow Jackets defense has posted three consecutive shutouts. The top-ranked, 25-1 Patriots will present a stern test Blythewood’s overtime win at Fort Mill sent the Bengals on to the third round for the first time in 4A. The program’s one previous run to the quarterfinals came in 3A in 2008 ... Lexington’s shootout win at Summerville should not be a surprise. After all, the Wildcats have now won five in a row on the road in the playoffs. Like Irmo on Thursday, Lexington had a 5-for-5 showing in the shootout to doom the Green Wave.

Class 3A

First round results: Eastside 4, Belton-Honea Path 0; Chapin 12, Woodruff 0; Seneca 1, Greer 0; A.C. Flora 2, Broome 1; River Bluff 9, Broome 0; Greenville 4, Daniel 1; Dreher 2, Chapman 1; Walhalla 4, Berea 1; Myrtle Beach 1, Hanahan 0; Swansea 2, Lakewood 0; James Island 4, North Myrtle Beach 0; Gilbert 9, Crestwood 0; Airport 3, Hartsville 2; Socastee 2, Stall 1; Brookland-Cayce 13, Marlboro County 1; Hilton Head 3, James Island 1.

Second round result: Eastside 3, Chapin 1; A.C. Flora 4, Seneca 0; River Bluff 4, Greenville 0; Walhalla 2, Dreher 1; Myrtle Beach 6, Swansea 1; James Island 2, Gilbert 0; ;Socastee 5, Airport 0; Brookland-Cayce 3, Hilton Head 0.

Third round matches: A.C. Flora at Eastsisde; Walhalla at River Bluff; Socastee at Brookland-Cayce.

3A notes: No. 11 A.C. Flora travels to face unbeaten, top-ranked Eastside. The Falcons will need some magic to get past the Eagles and advance to the state semifinals for only the second time River Bluff continues to make history. The fourth-ranked Gators became the first first-year school in 3A to win its state opener. Now, River Bluff sets its sights on becoming the first rookie program to bag a boys soccer state title No. 2 Brookland-Cayce is out to return to the Lower State title match for the first time since 2010.

Class 2A

Midlands first round results: Crescent 5, Batesburg-Leesville 0; Saluda 4, Columbia 1; Pendleton 11, Fairfield Central 0.
