Dave Thomas has been named the interim head football coach at Lugoff-Elgin High School, school officials announced on Monday. Craig Marlow was named interim activities director.
They will replace Scott Jones, who announced his retirement last week. Jones was named as offensive coordinator at Ben Lippen.
“It’s great to have talented persons on staff who can readily assume these duties,” Lugoff-Elgin principal Worth Thomasson said. “I have great confidence in both of these gentlemen and know that they will find tremendous support from our school community. I’m looking forward to a great year with Demon football and athletics.”
In his first year at Lugoff-Elgin last year, Thomas served as the football team’s defensive coordinator and head track coach, jobs he previously held at Fort Mill High. During his 19-year coaching career, Thomas also has served as the varsity linebackers coach at Northwestern High.
Marlow has served as the school’s assistant activities director since 2012 and also is the girls’ softball coach.
The Demons will play their first football game at home against rival Camden on Aug. 22.
