Victoria Huskey of Travelers Rest defeated Jaqueline Twitty of Chapin on the first hole of a playoff for the Class 3A individual title after both players finished at 4-over 146 at Black Bear Golf Club.
Huskey, a junior and the younger sister of South Carolina freshman Keenan Huskey, shot a 2-under 70 Tuesday that included a birdie on the 17th hole to tie Twitty, a Louisville commitment who began the final round two strokes ahead of her.
In the playoff on the risk-reward par-5 18th hole with a green fronted by water, Huskey laid up to set up a wedge into the green and Twitty tried to reach the green in two but found the water.
Twitty missed the green with her fourth shot and was unable to get up and down, allowing Huskey to win the hole and the title with a three-putt bogey.
Never miss a local story.
“I wasn’t going to go for (the green), because I hadn’t practice that,” Huskey said. “I was just trying to go with my strategy, which was to play it safe and not get into any trouble.”
South Pointe cruised past St. James by 18 strokes for the team title.
