QUESTION: Who do you see from the Midlands playing for state titles?
ANSWER: I think Fairfield Central has the best shot at getting to the championship game. Keenan also has a good shot at a title appearance. Dutch Fork has a tough bracket, but if the Silver Foxes can get by Dorman this week, they stand a pretty good chance of getting there.
QUESTION: Can you give a quick breakdown of what Lexington and River Bluff will be facing. Can either of these teams get to the championship?
ANSWER: Both of these teams are in favorable brackets to get to the championship game in their respective division. It appears the strong teams in both Division I and II are in the opposite bracket of Lexington and River Bluff.
Never miss a local story.
The Gators will face an athletic team this week. York’s quarterback Deshaw Andrews is a dual-threat quarterback. River Bluff has a shot at winning this game but can ill afford to play catch up with York. If the Cougars are “on” they can put up a lot of points. In terms of similarities of opponents, York is probably closer to what River Bluff saw in the Westwood game.
Lexington will take on a Hillcrest team that is athletic and will have the most team speed the Wildcats have faced this season. But Hillcrest has weaknesses. They are poor in open-field tackling, so Lexington could exploit that by getting the ball to playmakers in space. Hillcrest is also poor in kick coverage, so special teams play will be big. Also, the Hillcrest offense, while dangerous, is suspect when pressured; forcing the QB to throw on the run will benefit the Wildcats.
