The Weekend of Champions at Williams-Brice Stadium drew 15,500 for its three-game slate on Saturday.
Attendance was not recorded for individual games.
The North team defense features Dutch Fork’s Dominique Scott, A.C. Flora’s Denzel Johnson and Tyrell Goodwin, linebackers Stephen Timmons from Westwood, Tyler Frazier from Spring Valley, Nate Blankenship from Chapin, and Dunstan Padgett from Fairfield Central.
Spring Valley’s Ja’lon Williams, Newberry’s Benjamin Blackmon, and Lower Richland’s Lateef Robinson will be on the line.
Fairfield’s Shadarius Hopkins and Keenan’s Kendrick Gathers will man the defensive backfield. Westwood receiver Adonus Lee should be a highlight on the North offense, and C.A. Johnson’s Wendell Bing is part of the offensive line.
Lexington County is well-represented on the South squad, with Gilbert running back Jakayus Leaphart, Swansea linebacker Jonathon Sutton, and offensive linemen Whitt Warner of River Bluff and Alex Bray from Brookland-Cayce.
Several teams are headed to tournaments in the Upstate and the prestigious Beach Ball tournament in Charleston, but there will be lots of hoop action in the Midlands in the coming weeks, too.
The Bojangles BBall Bash will be Thursday-Saturday at Ridge View. The 12-team tournament features several of the area’s top teams and a handful of the nation’s top-ranked players, including Dreher’s Tevin Mack, A.C. Flora’s Karl Gamble, Spring Valley’s PJ Dozier, and Zion Lutheran star Keith Stone.
Richland Northeast hosts the nationally-renowned Chick-fil-A Classic and Carolina Challenge on Dec. 19-23.
Chapin and River Bluff are hosting tournaments Dec. 29-30.
Next weekend, River Bluff hosts the Gator Invitational, and Westwood hosts the Bojangles Clash at the Castle.
