Swansea notes: A small senior class means the Tigers will be a young bunch in 2008 … Swansea has had back-to-back 3-7, non-playoff seasons in their first two years at the Class 3A level and hasn’t finished with a winning season 2003 … Some of the newcomers at watch are junior Dalton Reynolds at quarterback, sophomore Dominique Dukes at running back, sophomore Carl Green at receiver, sophomore Jordan Fields and twin brothers Jason and Justin Magnuson up front … The top returning players are offensive linemen Kevin Jeffcoat and Trey Ulmer, running back Jaequan Sutton, receiver Matt Casteal, linebackers Benton Williams, Justin Crolley and Marco Pryor and defensive back Robert Browder.
Pelion notes: The Panthers no longer have to trudge down the hill to their old stadium. Friday’s game will be the inaugural at the new on-campus stadium … Pelion has a good, experience base on defense and Sean Davis returns on offense, but there are big questions are at quarterback and along the offensive line … Davis was outstanding while leading the Panthers to an 8-4 record last fall, running for 2,130 yards and 27 touchdowns … Linebacker Josh Skipper and Nick Gerity anchor the defense. Skipper is also a three-year starter at tight end … Receiver O.D. Kearse also returns after catching 37 passes for 507 yards and five TDs last year.
Series history: Swansea dominated early, winning the eight outings by lopsided margins. The Panthers, however, have won six of nine since 1999, including the last two meetings. Pelion prevailed 21-12 last season.
