Ben Lippen notes: The Falcons (2-3, 0-1) had to wonder where the offense went last week in a 24-7 SCISA Region 1-3A loss to Heathwood Hall. The only Ben Lippen touchdown was an 80-yard scoring run up the middle by Robert Keen. The Falcons missed a field goal, and failed to convert two other prime scoring chances – one on a sack and a lost fumble, the other on a penalty that negated a 61-yard run by Keen … In all, BL managed just 64 yards passing, and more than half of the 150 rushing yards came on Keen’s scoring run … Mic Shoemaker had nine tackles vs. the Highlanders … Keen has 347 yards rushing on 47 carries (7.38 average). The Falcons hope explosive Xan Mangum gets back on track after Heathwood Hall took him out of the mix last week. Mangum finished with 35 yards on seven carries and had one reception for five yards … Quarterback Joey Carter also struggled, going 9-for-19 for 64 yards and no TDs. He is 73-for-130 for 973 yards and 14 scores on the season.
Augusta Christian notes: The Lions may have started the season in rebuilding mode, but you wouldn’t know it by the early season results. AC is off to a 4-1 start, losing only to Charlotte Christian (28-0) … The Lions knocked Laurence Manning Academy from the unbeaten ranks last week with a tough 13-9 win in Manning. The AC defense was in top form again. The points came on two field goals by Stephen Bloedel and a decisive 44-yard touchdown pass from quarterback William Banks to Caleb Harmon with 4:45 remaining in the fourth quarter. Banks, a top receiver and cornerback in the past, is settling in as the new quarterback. He had 65 yards rushing on six carries vs. LMA and hit 11 of 17 passes for 104 yards … Friday’s game is the SCISA Region 1-3A opener for the Lions.
