White Knoll steams into the Class 4A state volleyball playoffs after putting together the best regular-season campaign in school history. The Timberwolves went 12-2 in Region 5-4A to rate a home date on Tuesday against West Ashley in the Lower State first round match.
White Knoll finished second to Lexington in Region 5-4A this season, while West Ashley enters as the No. 3 seed out of Region 8-4A. The winner advances to second-round play on Thursday and a likely date with traditional power Wando.
“We are very excited about being in the playoffs this year, and honored that we have a high ranking in the Lower State,” said second-year WK coach Nicole Gilstrap.
“We have been working very hard all season to prove something since we didn't make it last year and I believe we are well on the right track. We know our season is starting all over and we are going to push to play as long as we can. These girls are very close and supportive of each other, and this, along with them working very hard, is what we need to go far in the playoffs.”
Seniors Colbie Anderson and Ashleigh Dent have been the team leaders. Anderson, an all-region and all-star game pick, has 120 kills and 40 blocks this season. Dent has 105 digs.
Juniors Sarah Barton and Brittney Williamson also earned all-region recognition this season. Barton, the team’s primary setter, has 469 assists to date, while Libero Williamson, a two-time all-region pick, has 216 digs.
Sophomore Caitlin Bullock has also been a big contributor at the net with 217 kills.
