Blythewood blanked Northwestern 6-0 on Tuesday in the school’s first-ever state girls tennis playoff match at home. The 12-1 Bengals host Dorman (17-2) in Class 4A second-round play on Thursday.
Amanda Malatek, Lee Ferrell, Alyssa Ursprung, Taneshia Mickle and Mikaela King were all straight-set singles winners in the postseason opener. Malatek and Ferrell both improved to 12-0 at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.
Dorman was also a 6-0 winner (against Easley) in first-round action. Haley Keith is 16-2 at No. 1 singles for the Cavaliers, and six-year varsity veteran Pallavi Kumar is 15-2 at No. 2 singles. Kumar has a 99 career wins (singles and doubles combined) – a school record.
