Four Midlands teams are entered in the new Lake Marion Invitational basketball tournament in Santee. The first-year event runs Friday through Monday.
The local list is heading by the Eau Claire girls, the top-ranked team in Class 2A. The Shamrocks open against Estill at 4 p.m. on Friday. In other first-round games, the Keenan girls take on Cross at 10:30 a.m., and the Swansea girls square off against Timberland at 1:30 p.m. and the Swansea boys face Andrews at noon.
The girls championship game is set for 7:30 p.m. on Monday with the boys title bout to follow at 9 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Gilbert and Sumter girls teams are entered in a tournament at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High and Claflin University. The two Midlands squads square off at 3 p.m. at Claflin’s Jonas T. Kennedy Center in first-round play on Friday.
