Matthew Johnson made history over the weekend by becoming the first Keenan wrestler to place at a tournament. Johnson, a senior, went 4-1 at won the consolation heavyweight title at the Hardee’s Blue Devil Invitational at Dreher.
As a team, the Raiders finished 21st in the 27-team field. The Raiders also received points from James Smalls at 215 pounds. Smalls went 1-2 during the tournament. Keenan coach Marlin Talor also praised the work turn in by Autan Person, who returned to the line after stting out with a knee injury.
“I am very proud of the way the kids did this weekend and I really think we are making some great improvements as a team,” said Taylor. “We just need to continue to work hard and finish strong.”
The Raiders will be back in action Tuesday when they face Region 4-2A rival Central.
