Lugoff-Elgin is off and running in the Class 3A state wrestling playoffs. The Demons dispatched Region 4-3A rival Chapin from the postseason with a convincing 39-16 win in first-round action on Wednesday.
L-E is 15-0 in first round playoff matches through the years.
Justin McClester and Blake Tillman got things off on the right foot for the Demons with decisions at 125 and 130 pounds, but Chapin pulled out four wins in the next five bouts to take a 13-10 lead. North Hollingsworth got the Eagles on the board with a decision at at 135. After L-E’s Will Myers nipped Zach Quansey at 140, Chapin reeled off three straight wins for forge ahead – decisions at Cody Carraway at 145 and Emerson Shaw at 160 and a major decision by Ben Monroe at 152.
The Eagles' advantage was brief. Will Connell’s 11-5 win at 160 was the beginning of adecisive, six-bout L-E roll – a move featuring pins by Humphries at 215 and Shepherd at heavyweight. T.J. Branham’s 9-5 win at 103 over Stuart Hope provided the clinching points for the Demons. Hope beat Branham last Friday in the 103 title bout at the region tournament last week.

Lugoff-Elgin (19-3) travels to Riverside on Monday with a spot in the Upper State finals at stake. The Warriors got past Travelers Rest 39-31 in the first round.
Chapin closes out the team portion of season with a 17-3 record.
