Alex Nettles pitched a five-hit shutout on Thursday to lead Brookland-Cayce to a 6-0 win over host Georgetown in the first round of the International Paper Classic baseball tournament.
Nettles, who was 2-0 with two saves for the Class 3A state champion Bearcats last season, limited the Bulldogs to five single while stringout out four and issuing just one walk.
Foster Stephens and catcher Austin Harris had two hits apiece to pace B-C’s seven-hit attack. Stephens scored one run and had one RBI, while Harris scored twice. Chase Shelton and Garrett Williams combined for four RBIs, even though neither had a hit in the game.
Shelton drove in Stephens with a ground out in the first inning. Williams plated Harris without a ground out in the second and received two RBIs in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice bunt and allowed Zack Walker and Harris cross the plate.
