For the second night in a row, the Ridge View Blazers took on the FairfieldCentral Griffins on Tuesday, 3/10/09 in Winnsboro. The Blazers won the seasonopener 6-4 the night before at Ridge View.
After 2 scoreless innings, the visiting Blazers got on the scoreboard firstwhen freshman Tre Medlin lined a single up the middle with two outs, and camearound to score on a pair of infield errors to the next two Ridge Viewhitters. The Blazers widened the margin in the top of the 4th, scoring 4 runsto go up 5-0. Pitcher Brooke Dimock singled between 1st and 2nd, scoringStephanie Sweatman who had walked to lead off the inning. After a fielder'schoice and a hit batter put runners at 1st and 2nd with 2 outs in the inning,a mishandled high flyball to center off the bat of Medlin allowed MeganWoodall and Stephanie Junker to score. Medlin would score the 5th run for theBlazers after a hard single down the first base line by freshman catcherKatelyn Smith.
The Griffins closed the gap in the bottom of the inning scoring 3 to make thescore 5-3 Blazers. K. Spearman lead off the inning with a triple to theright-center field gap, scoring on an infield single to short by A. Copeland.After a strikeout, T. Richmond hit a ball deep into the right-field corner fora 2-run inside the park homer, involving a big collision at the plate betweenRichmond and the catcher Smith, with Richmond eluding the tag.
After a scoreless 5th, Ridge View recouped these runs, scoring 3 in the top ofthe 6th to go up 8-3. Junior Megan Woodall lead off the inning with a buntsingle down third, and following a stolen base and a groundout, scored on asacrifice fly to right from Tre Medlin. With 2 outs, Katelyn Smith singled upthe middle, followed by a walk to junior LF Kaitlyn McCormick. Eighth grade3B Kelsey Clamp lined a solid 2-run triple to the left-center field gap tofinish the scoring for the Blazers.

Not going away quietly, Fairfield scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th usingconsecutive hits to right from A. Copeland and B. Martin. Blazer pitcherBrooke Dimock pitched a 1-2-3 7th inning to keep the score at 8-5 in favor ofthe Blazers. This was Dimock's 2nd win of the season, as she fanned 10 in theprocess.
After rainouts with South Pointe on Friday and West Florence on Monday, nextup for the Blazers is a Region 4-4A matchup with Rock Hill at Ridge View onTuesday at 7:00.
