The Sumter Gamecocks visited the Ridge View Blazers on Wednesday in anon-region contest, and came away with a one-sided 10-0 victory in a shortened5 innings. Ridge View entered the game with a 3-0 overall record, whileSumter was 2-2 overall.
The Sumter pitching was dominant as starter Sutton Watson went 4 innings usinga very effective combination of curves, risers, and changeups to only allow 1hit, strike out 8, and walk only a batter. Courtney Buckner pitched the 5thallowing a hit and a walk, but no runs. The Sumter bats also were impressiveas they scored in each inning but the 2nd. For the Blazers, their defense wasnot nearly as sharp as it has been this season, committing 5 errors on thenight. This, coupled with 5 free passes from Blazer pitching, and someconfident hitting from the Gamecocks made it a long evening for the Blazers.
Sumter scored a pair in the 1st inning, single runs in the 3rd and 4th, andopened things up with 6 in the 5th aided by 3 Blazer errors to account fortheir 10 runs. Stephanie Junker and Shatoya White accounted for the 2 hitsfor the Blazers, both singles. For Sumter, Morgan Mixon was 2-3 with 3 runsscored, and Sutton Watson was 2-4 with a double and 2 rbi.
