Fresh from a 3-2 showing over the weekend at the Lexington Wildcat Invitational, the Blythewood softball team returned to the Region 4-4A wars on Monday night with a 4-0 win against South Pointe.
The first-place Bengals (6-3 overall, 3-0 in region) have a quick turnaround with a long road Trip on Tuesday to play Rock Hill. Kelly Owens and Megan Marsh combined for Monday’s shutout pitching performance. Owens started, tossing five innings of three-hit ball on the way to running her season record in the circle to 3-0. Marsh followed with two perfect innings in relief to gain her first save of the season.
In tournament highlights, Owens went 2-0 with a save in the circle and batted .467, Paige Hartfield hit .429 and slugged her first career home run, Paige Owczarczak had a .400 tourney batting average, and had three hits vs. Brookland-Cayce ace Chandler Terrapin, Lori Owens and Bailey Newman shared the team lead with five tournament RBIs.
Blythewood’s hectic week continues with games on Wednesday (at home against Irmo) and Thursday (at Lancaster).
