Will Bedenbaugh stroked the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to handed unbeaten Mid-Carolina a come-from-behind 2-1 Region 3-2A baseball win over defending state champion Tuesday night in Prosperity.
The win upped the overall M-C record to 5-0, 3-0 in the region, and allowed the Rebels to take over sole possession of first place. Gilbert fell to 6-3, 2-1.
Bedenbaugh drilled a drive over the head of Gilbert center fielder Kellan Craft to plate Bryan Cotney was the winning run with one out in the final frame. Cotney got into scoring position by lining a double down the third base line off Indians starter Jake Padgett, who had allowed only three hits and one unearned run in the first six innings. Bendebaugh had three of the Rebels’ five hits off Padgett.
C.J. Edwards had a sensational outing on the mound for M-C, tossing a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts while improving to 2-0 on the season.

Gilbert opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning, courtesy of a walk by Austin LaBounty and a RBI double by Matt Stegall. Mid-Carolina tied it up with a run in the sixth when pinch runner Dontrae Wise scored on a ground out off the bat of Jeffrey Hentz.
