The Chapin High School varsity softball team is off to a great start this season.
And they can thank new coach Jason Jolley.
Coach Jolley was named coach of the varsity squad in January and has started off the season with a bang. His previous coaching experience includes baseball and basketball. He also played high school baseball with Mid Carolina – he was as a pitcher - and continued playing at Newberry College before a short stint in the Minnesota Twins minor league organization.
Coach Jolley also is a teacher at Chapin Middle School .
Never miss a local story.
So far this season the Lady Eagles have a 7-3 record and are undefeated in region play. They took the Silver Award in the Lexington Wildcat Invitational Tournament the weekend of March 21st, with the assistance of junior varsity player Addy Scheble (Freshman).
Coach Jolley was fortunate to have 10 returning players this season. Returning seniors include: Jennifer Bozzo (left field), Melanie Fitts (right field), Chelsea Frick (first base and catcher).
Offensively the Lady Eagles have stepped up to the plate with strong hitting provided by Brittany Barr, Lauren Barton, Samantha Boland, Savannah Frick, Whitley Martin and Jenna Taylor. These strong bats, in addition to speed on the bases provided by newcomer Josie Hayes, Jenna Taylor and Melanie Fitts, have helped power the Lady Eagles offense.
Defensively the team is led by their two seasoned pitchers, junior Brittany Barr and freshman Taylor Morgan, accompanied by veteran catchers Chelsea Frick, a senior, and Whitley Martin, a freshman. In the Lady Eagles first region game of the year, Morgan struck out 16 batters in route to a no hitter against AC Flora.
Also to watch is our Lady Eagles Junior Varsity Team coached by Linsy Dooley whose team is undefeated in region. Players to watch on the Lady Eagles Junior Varsity team are Lindsay Baker, Alyssa Fulton, Natalie Harper, Autumn Lindler, Taylor Matthews, Kerri Richardson and Addy Schelble.
