Irmo, ranked No. 2 in Class 4A, brought upstart White Knoll back to reality on Tuesday night with a 9-4 win against the host Wildcats. The unbeaten Yellow Jackets kept up the torrid offensive pace they have set since the start of the season, but the Timberwolves did tally a season-high number of goals against an Irmo defensive crew that had surrendered just one tally in its first eight matches.
Kyle McEwan led the assault with a hat trick, giving the Jackets’ scoring leader 13 goals to date. Kyle Bedenbaugh, Matt Sieverding and Matt Birnie were all credited with assists on McEwan’s goals. McEwan also had an assist on one of Taylor Varney’s two goals. Zack Acree also scored twice for Irmo. Varney and Acree both have nine goals on the books. Sieverding and Paris Richardson had the other Yellow Jackets tallies. Leo Mukofsky finished with two assists.
Jonathan Salinas had the hat trick for White Knoll, but Irmo did keep Timberwolves freshman star Nestor Jaramillo off the board. Cristian Hidalgo scored the final WK goal.
Irmo (9-0) travels to face winless Richland Northeast on Friday. White Knoll (6-1) hosts winless Orangeburg-Wilkinson on Friday.
