Class 2A second-ranked, unbeaten Batesburg-Leesville returns to action after a 12-day boys soccer break on Tuesday. The Panthers, 5-0 overall, 3-0 in Region 3-2A, gets back on the pitch at Saluda.
B-L has blown through three first-half region opponents, downing Gilbert 3-1, Strom Thurmond 11-0 and Mid-Carolina 12-1. Carlos Hernandez and Ben Grime are pacing the Panthers’ potent attack, which is averaging 5.4 goals per outing, with eight and six tallies, respectively. Kurt Bostelear and Jon Dachenhaus have scored four goals apiece.
Ninth-ranked Gilbert (10-4, 3-1) is back in action Wednesday in the wake of a 13-day layoff at Strom Thurmond. Eleise Cedillo, Gustavo Del Los Reyes and Matt Yuhas have been scoring machines for the Tribe. Cedillo leads the Midlands in goals (30) and overall scoring (71 points). Del Los Reyes has posted 17 goals and 11 assists, good for 44 points, and Yuhas isn’t far behind with nine goals and 24 assists (42 points). Chip Sox has contributed four goals and 10 assists (18 points) and Jacob Bedenbaugh has three goals and seven helpers (13 points) on the books.
