The Hungry Howie’s Invitational girls soccer tournament debuts today at Irmo with four first-round matches.
Irmo takes on Blythewood and Dutch Fork meets Ridge View in the first matches at 5:30 p.m., followed by Riverside vs. Spring Valley and T.L. Hanna vs. Daniel at 6:30 p.m. The early schedule on Saturday features Ridge View vs. Irmo and Daniel vs. Blythewood at 9:30 p.m., followed by Dutch Fork vs. Riverside and T.L. Hanna vs. Spring Valley at 11:30 p.m.
Seeding will determine the rest of the matches. The two semifinal matches will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The tournament championship match is set for 2 p.m. Sunday at W.C. Hawkins Stadium.
“I wanted to put together a tournament at this time of the season, and the plans are for it to get bigger in the future,” said Irmo coach Mike Mauldin. “I plan to have 12 teams next year and eventually get it up to 16. I think we have a very good field in our first year.”

Dutch Fork (9-0, No. 3), T.L. Hanna (8-2, No. 5), Irmo (9-2, No. 8), Ridge View (9-1, No. 10) and Spring Valley (5-3-1, No. 14) are all ranked in Class 4A, while Riverside (5-2) is ranked No. 3 in Class 3A.
