Due to a pair of rainouts with South Pointe earlier in the season, the Ridge View Blazers travelled to South Pointe to take on the Stallions for a Region 4-4A double-header (5-innings each) on Monday, 4/20/09. The Blazers came into these games with a 1-5 Region record, 5-14 overall, needing to win both to stay in playoff contention during the final week of the regular season.
Game 1: The Blazers took an early lead, scoring 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning, using a leadoff infield single from junior SS Megan Woodall, a 2-rbi single up the middle from freshman catcher Katelyn Smith, and 3 Stallion errors to take a 4-0 lead. South Pointe picked up a run in their half of the first on a pair of hits, but the Blazers answered in the top of the 2nd scoring 4 more runs to go up 8-1. A 2-rbi single over second from freshman 3B Tre Medlin, an rbi-single through the middle for junior LF Kaitlyn McCormick, an infield single from junior 1B Stephanie Sweatman, and 3 more South Pointe errors lead to the 4 runs. Ridge View added 2 runs in the 4th inning to make it a 10-1 game. Junior Brooke Dimock pitched the first 3 innings for the Blazers allowing a run on four hits, and striking out 8. Junior Stephanie Sweatman pitched the final 2 innings for the Blazers allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and 4 walks. Nine South Pointe errors during the 5-inning contest aided the Blazer effort.

Game 2: The Blazers put this one out of reach early, scoring 11 runs in the first inning. A bases-loaded 2-rbi line drive single to left by senior RF Shatoya White, which got by the left fielder clearing the bases and landing White at third was the big hit of the inning. Stephanie Sweatman added a looper over third for an rbi-single for the only 2 hits in the inning. Ten walks, a hit batter, and 2 South Pointe errors were the big contributors to the 11-run first inning outburst for the Blazers (and the need for new pencils for the scorebook). The big story of the game however, was the pitching of junior Brooke Dimock. Dimock, who also got the decision in the preceeding game, tossed a 5-inning perfect game (15 batters faced and retired). Never allowing a ball out of the infield, Dimock collected 6 strikeouts, and induced 9 groundball outs, with the infield defense making the plays behind her. Dimock, in an effort to increase her parents' heart rate, went 3-2 on the final hitter in the 5th, before getting the final out of the game on a strikeout.
The win moves Ridge View to 3-5 in the Region (7-14 overall), and into a tie for 4th place with Rock Hill, also 3-5. The Blazers have two Region games remaining this week with Spring Valley on Tuesday and Lancaster on Thursday, both at home.
