Pelion qualified for the Class 2A state softball playoffs in a new region this season (5-2A), and with every varsity regular expected to return next spring expectations will be a bit higher in the more familiar surroundings.
The Panthers finished with a 11-13 overall record and tied for third place in the region with Edisto at 5-5.
“I had two goals at the beginning of the season – to have a winning record and to make the playoffs,” said first-year Panthers coach Larry Poole. “After the regular season, we were 11-11 and qualified for the playoffs. We were very young and played in a very tough region. I thought all the girls worked hard to become better players. I look forward to coaching them the next several years. We have our entire team coming back next year. I'm very excited about our chances to grow as a team, and hopefully continue to improve on the field.”
Brittany and Tiffany Omanski were the Pelion headliners in 2009. Both made the all-region team, and Tiffany Omanski earned a CAWS all-state spot. Tiffany Omanski led the team in hitting (.414, 13 runs, 18 RBIs, nine SB) and was 7-9 with a 2.31 ERA and 129 strikeouts in 93 innings in the circle. Brittany Omanski, Tiffnay’s battery mate at catcher, hot .306 with 16 runs and 10 RBIs).
Never miss a local story.
