Brookland-Cayce surprised even coach Kevin Heise with a solid, 15-9-2 showing in boys soccer this spring.
“I really feel that our boys pretty much overachieved all year as we only returned five players from a year ago and only three starters,” said Heise. “At 15-9-2 and region runners-up and an appearance in the playoff quarterfinals -- we exceeded our expectations this year, so we certainly consider this season a success and are proud of our team's overall body of work.”
Rico Jackson, Taylor Lewis and Greg Stone came away with all-region recognition. Lewis scored 30 goals and had seven assists for 67 points, also earn a spot on the SCHSSCA all-state team and was cited as the team’s offensive MVP. Stone was named the defensive MVP.
Jackson and Adam Keller are the two departing senior starters. Keller received the team Bearcat awards.
Lewis, Stone and keeper Chris Duzan headline the list of returning starters, which also includes Chastin Lockhart, William Flores, Jalin Butler, Juan Flores and Thomas Harris.
“We return eight starters for 2010 as well as 13 varsity lettermen, so the future should be promising,” said Heise. “ think that it is realistic for us to plan to win the region in 2010 and make a run at the state championship game.”
