The young Hammond girls soccer team completed a respectable 8-10 season in 2009, and look for better things in 2010.
“We were very young this year and we had several girls playing varsity for the first time,” said Skyhawks coach Sophia Hernandez. “Our seniors and veterans did a great job on the field. We are losing five starters but I don't doubt that we can once again bounce back and compete. We have some amazing athletes.”
Senior starters Sarah Prickett, Liesel Hamilton, Sally Mills, and Margaret Deans Fawcett will be missed. Pickett was an all-region pick along with Perry Shockley, Sarah Specter. Specter was ab all-state selection, as well. Shockley, Specter, Kathryn Reddic, Rachel Price, Caroline Hudon and Madelon Kneece will be the veteran building blocks next season.
Prickett received the Skyhawk Leadership award, and Sally Mills was presented with the Kettle Award. Boykin Carter and Caroline Hudon were honored as the most improved players on the team.
