Airport notes: The Eagles defeated scrappy White Knoll 24-14 a week ago to improve to 3-0 … Airport should have plenty of motivation against LR. After all, the Eagles got off to a 3-0 start last season only to lose at home to the Diamond Hornets … Ryan Smith and WT Murden again carried the load offensively a week ago at White Knoll. Smith ran for 126 yards and one touchdown, while quarterback Murden had 87 yards rushing, 97 yards passing for ran for two TDs, including the clincher in the fourth quarter … Murden leads the team in rushing and passing. The three-year starter has 378 yards and seven TDs by land while going 29-for-44 for 377 yards and five scores in the passing game. Smith has 331 yards on 46 carries, six catches for 69 yards and four overall touchdowns. Derek Cushman (7-106-2) and Josh Salley (6-117-0) are the top receivers … Three-year starting defensive lineman Chris Phillips is the defensive ringleaders and the top hit man with 40 tackles. Charlie Crane and Shawn Felder are next on the tackles list with 34 and 30 stops, respectively.
Lower Richland notes: The Diamond Hornets fell to 1-2 last week, letting a 19-6 halftime lead slip away on the way to a 28-25 loss at Orangeburg-Wilkinson … Devante Wright had a big game for LR, running for 180 yards and two touchdown on just 10 carries, caught one pass for 37 yards and also had an interception on defense. Wright’s 59-yard scoring dash put LR ahead 22-19 at the 10:14 mark of the fourth quarter, but the Bruins responded with a game-winning, 68-yard scoring drive … Marvin Smith had 15 tackles on defense, upping his team leading season total to 44 … Wright has 298 yards and three TDs by land, and five catches for 63 yards and one score … Quarterback John Worthy is looking to bounce back from an off night at O-W. Worthy is 36-for-72 for 521 yards and six TDs for the season.
