Lexington notes: The Wildcats ended a three-game losing streak in a big way last week – whipping Aiken 42-20 in the Region 5-4A opener for both teams … The Wildcats had their best offensive game of the season. Three Lexington runners broke the 100-yard mark in the romp. Quarterback Shaq Roland piled up 167 yards on 15 carries and scored two touchdowns. He also was 3-for-7 passing for 47 yards and one TD. Adrian Wigfall went for 102 yards and three scores on 17 totes, and added 64 return yards on special teams. Wigfall has 332 yards rushing and five TD, and is averaging 25.4 yards of kickoff returns and 13.3 on punt returns. Richland NE: The Cavaliers pulled out their first win of the season in dramatic fashion, scoring on the last play of the game to escape White Knoll’s Wolf Den with a 21-17 Region 5-4A victory … To say the RNE win was improbable is an understatement. The host Timberwolves put together a late 68-yard drive that concluded with a go-ahead 25-yard field goal with 20 seconds remaining. After a short kickoff, RNE had just 12 seconds to go 48 yards for the winning points. What do the Cavs do? They call a running play, of course. No problem. Darius Paulk took the handoff and dashed to pay dirt, crossing the goal line as time expired … In the end, RNE finished with 356 offensive yards. Paulk had 92 yards rushing on 11 carries, but veteran quarterback Kersean Wilson had the big numbers. Wilson was 12-for-17 passing for 114 yards and two touchdowns and had 91 yards rushing on 16 carries. Receiver Chris Branch had four catches for 49 yards and one TD … For the season, Wilson is 50-for-81 passing for 505 yards and six scores, and has 291 yards rushing and five TDs. Paulk has 339 yards rushing and three TDs.
Series history: Officially, Lexington has won two in a row against the Cavaliers after RNE prevailed in each of the first nine meetings of the teams. However, Lexington’s 28-27 triumph last season was the first time the Wildcats beat the Cavs on field. RNE’s win in 2007 was forfeited.
