Following a Timmy Smith touchdown run that made it 26-25 with 1:50 to go in regulation, Bluffton coach Jeremy West opted to go for the win. Quarterback Desmond Jenkins ran a naked bootleg and appeared to score after hitting the pylon, but officials said he did not cross the goal line.
At Hilton Head, Corey Washington and Denzel Myers, who traded off at quarterback and wide receiver for the Cougars, helped lead North Charleston (5-1, 1-0 Region 8-3A).
Washington played a part in all six touchdowns. He threw three scores, caught two more and ran for another. He totaled 349 yards on the night. Myers caught two touchdowns to go along with 196 receiving yards and threw two touchdowns to Washington.
