Chapin notes: Scott Earley’s comeback kids were at it again last week, rallying past tough Lugoff-Elgin for a 24-21 win on the Region 4-3A opener. The Eagles have won six in a row under the new coach, five of which were come-from-behind affairs. Chapin has won four games in a row by delivering under pressure in the fourth quarter … Last week, the Eagles trailed 21-14 with 9:24 to go in the game, but tied it up at the 8:22 mark of the final frame on Michael Weimer’s 42-yard scoring pass to Jalen Pauling and won it on Colden King’s 25-yard field goal with 1:41 left … Weimer is 80-for-140 passing for 1,172 yards and 11 touchdowns so far. Victor Frick is the top receiver with 32 catches for 408 yards and six TDs and leads the team in scoring with 72 points.
A.C. Flora notes: After getting off to a 0-2 star under first-year coach Dean Howell, the Flora Falcons have gone on a four-game winning streak – the longest for the program since 1984 ... Last week the Falcons came off a bye week to beat Lower Richland in the Region 4-3A opener … ACF boasts a balanced running game. The Falcons have rushed for 1,278 yards to date, and are averaging 5.1 yards per running attempt. Six different back have run for at least 100 yards. The nominal leaders are Ricky Williams (54-249-1), Jalen Ayers (35-248-4) and Cedric Cornelius (43-222-3) … On the defensive side, Justice Walker (69) and Dante’ Lovett (62) lead the team in tackles, Ty Pelzer had three interceptions and Andfew Taylor has three sacks.
