Blythewood’s 3-0 Region 4-4A victory over Spring Valley on Oct. 8 was definitely the result of a team effort.
All phases of the game seemed to be clicking for the Bengals on this night, with multiple contributors. They set the tone in game one with good defense. Victoria Harley and Courtney Williams combined for several blocks, while seven different Blythewood players picked up digs in this game.
And on a night when the Bengals were being stingy with surrendering points, they tallied their own with strong service and hitting games.
Sophomore Ashley Williams, whose 93.1% in serving ranks 2nd on the team, was one of several Bengals to record multiple service aces against the Vikings. Blythewood, however, did a good job of passing the ball to setter Caleen Hawkins. She finished with 26 assists for the match and had three of her hitters achieve hitting percentages of over 40% (Harley, C. Williams, and Meredith Jones). Blythewood won the match 25-12, 25-15, 25-23.
Never miss a local story.
Blythewood stat leaders: C. Hawkins (26 assists, 6 digs, 5 aces), A. Kessee (10 digs, 9 kills, 3 aces), V. Harley (5 kills, 4 block assists).
