Janson Busby’s two medal performances helped the A.C. Flora boys swimming team earn its fourth straight Top 10 finish at the Class 3A state championship meet last weekend at Clemson.
Busby became the third ACF swimmer to claim a state title, winning the 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 49.25 seconds. The Falcons placed seventh in the final team standings with 185 points after putting together a run of three straight third-place finishes.
Busby joined the school gold medal list along with Bill Flett and Claire Busby, his sister. Before earning his first solo prize, Busby was part of two Falcons winning relay teams in 2008. He also added a silver medal to his resume this season, thanks to being a member of the Falcons’ runner-up 400 free relay team along with Garrett Ocker, Andy Campbell and Gordon Duren, and chipped in a fifth-place finish in the 200 free. The same foursome had a fifth-place finish in the 200 medley relay.
Ocker (11th, 500 free; 16th, 200 free), Campbell (10th, 500 free; 20th, 200 free) and Duren (5th, backstroke; 6th, butterfly) all individually contributed to the team score.
