Lower Richland notes: The Diamond Hornets (1-7, 0-3) are a long shot to make the playoffs, but are still mathematically in the hunt. LR, however, must win its final two games against Chapin and Chester … Quarterback John Worthy and running back Devante Wright are the LR offensive leaders. Worthy is 98-for-214 passing for 1,409 yards and 11 touchdowns. Wright has 897 yards rushing, is averaging 8.7 yards per carry and has scored seven TDs. In addition, Wright has 20 receptions for 218 yards and two scores … Marvin Smith is the big man on defense with team high totals in tackles (117) and sacks (4).
Chapin notes: The Eagles are dealing with something new in the Scott Earley Era – a loss. Chapin (7-1, 2-1) dropped a 34-14 decision last week at home to Chester, but still remains in the Region 4-3A championship race. If, that is, the Eagles avoid another stumble this week against LR. A win sends Chapin into the regular season finale against Fairfield Central with a chance to at least share the region title with a win over the Griffins, who currently reside in first place with a 3-0 conference mark … Chester’s defense did a number on the Eagles ground game, allowing a net of just 15 yards. The Clyclones blanked Chapin over the final three quarters after the Eagles built a 14-7 lead by the end of the opening 12 minutes … Chapin’s season offensive leaders include running back Josh Sanga (111-737-8), quarterback Michael Weimer (109-for-206, 1,564 yards, 14 TDs) and receiverVictor Frick (38-495-7).
Series history: Lower Richland was a 22-12 winner last season in the first-ever meeting of the schools in football.
