The Hammond Skyhawks girls, who last year finished third, have had a tough schedule this year leading up to the final race. In the past two weeks, the Skyhawks, led by Catherine Herring and Charlotte Bristow, placed fourth in the Lexington Invitational and won the Darlington Carnival. Hammond looks to regain its place at the top of Class 3A.
On the boys side, Ben Lippen senior Hunter Frady leads the Falcons as they try to improve upon last year's fourth-place finish in Class 3A. Frady ran a season-best 17:37 at the Skyhawk Invitational in September.

Golf season wraps up with Monday, Tuesday tourneys
Class 3A and 4A golf finishes next week, with both divisions playing their two-round tournaments on Monday and Tuesday.
At Three Pines Golf Club in Woodruff, the Class 4A tournament is dominated by two juggernaut programs.
Dorman, led by Taylor Pleier, is a favorite to win after three consecutive runner-up finishes. Five-time defending champion Lexington, with a new coach and shuffled foursome, likely will make that difficult, though. The Wildcats are led by Maureen Dunnagan and Kathryn Miranda, and look for a strong performance from their young star, seventh grader Lauren Stephenson.
Another youngster who might make a splash is Nicole Chin. The eighth-grader from Dutch Fork shot a 32 earlier this season and has been a consistent low-scorer for the Silver Foxes.
In the Class 3A tournament to be played at Conway's Quail Creek Golf Club, A.C. Flora likely will battle Strom Thurmond and Bluffton for the top spot.
The Falcons, led by Alex Van Dine and Collins Bradshaw, shot a 307 to win the Upper State qualifier. Bluffton topped the Lower State competition with a 312 and Strom Thurmond, last year's runner-up, stroked 323 to place second. A.C. Flora has finished third for the past two seasons.
