Brookland-Cayce does not want to experience another season like 2008-09. The young Bearcats were rebuilding from a region championship season, but did not expect to have as many problems as they did on the way to a 5-16 record and a 0-10 showing in Region 5-3A.
“It was a real frustrating season,” said coach Ricky Bouknight.
“We played hard and were in most games but we had trouble getting into the win column. On paper it looks to be a two-team race in the region with Dreher the favorite and Midland Valley a close second, but we hope to be in the mix as the season progresses.”
B-C welcomes back two starters from a year ago, including talented 6-4 junior guard Jonathan Rumph and 6-2 senior forward John Coughlin. Reilly Kilbride, senior guard Vernard Collins and 6-2 senior forward Vince Odom are returning lettermen.
Newcomers to watch include 6-7 junior Tevin Lytes, a transfer from White Knoll, junior guard Antwon Dallas, junior forward Michael Lieberman and sophomore guard Curtis Barber.
Rumph, an all-region pack last season, averaged 12.8 ppg, 7.3 rpg and 4.2 apg. Coughlin averaged 8.3 ppg and 6.1 rpg. Odom averaged 4.8 ppg and 6.7 rpg. Barber has a chance to be the starting point guard.
