Ben Lippen, behind Mitchell Deter’s 24 points, improved to 3-2 on the season with a 51-40 win at C.A. Johnson on Thursday night.
Deter broke open a close game late in the third quarter by draining three long 3-pointers to help increase the Falcons lead to 38-23 entering the fourth quarter. On a night when both clubs did not shoot the ball particularly well, Deter was 8-for-14 from the field, including 5-for-8 marksmanship from beyond the arc, and went 3-for-3 at the foul line. Teammate Derek Snelgrove chipped in 13 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the floor. Otherwise, the rest of the Falcons were a dismal 7-for-32 from the field.
Deter also chipped in three assists and grabbed a team high nine rebounds. Brandon Despres (7), Gray Welborn (6) and Snelgrove (6) also did good work on the boards for the Falcons.
Ben Lippen returns to action on Tuesday at Florence Christian. The Falcons opened the season with an 85-43 rout of FC at home.
To date, Deter is averaging 19.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.0 steals per game. Snelgrove is averaging 11.2 ppg.
