Asia Dozier scored 14 points in her first game of the season on Tuesday night as top-ranked, defending Class 4A state champion Spring Valley rolled Sumter 60-29.
Dozier, who missed the Vikings first four games of the season in the wake of arthroscopic surgery on her right knee, was a bit rusty offensively, shooting 6-for-18 from the field (1-for-10 from 3-point range), but was fine otherwise. The sophomore star finished with six assists and five steals.
Shaquita Walker, Xylina McDaniel and Jocelyn Lawrence all had solid outings for Spring Valley, which jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter and breezed to its fourth win in five outings. Walker scored 15 points, hitting three of her four pops from beyond the arc, and had four steals. McDaniel had another double-double – 13 points, 10 rebounds. Lawrence tallied nine points and had four rebounds and three steals.
Savonia Bryan did not score, but contributed eight rebounds, three assists and a steal to the cause.
