Ridge View rallied to a 67-56 boys basketball win at Irmo on Tuesday, avenging a 61-58 loss to the Class 4A ninth-ranked Yellow Jackets at home last week. It was the first win of the season Blazers (1-3), and the first setback for Irmo (2-1).
Anytime you win at Irmo you know you got a quality victory,” said Blazers coach John Combs.
“I was proud of our team because everyone who was available to us played and everyone played a role in helping us to get the win tonight. We played an extremely smart second half and executed beautifully in the final minutes of the game. I was extremely happy with how well and how unselfishly we move the ball. We hit some key outside shots tonight in the second half and that was directly related to us passing up average shots and making the extra pass to get the better quality shot.”
Irmo led 26-22 at halftime, but the Blazers took command of the game immediately after the break. Ridge View out-scored the Jackets 45-30 in the second half, jumping starting the rally with four 3-pointers during a 23-15 move in the third quarter.
All 11 Blazers dressed played, and eight scored points. Senior star Mike Green was not one of them. He sat out with an injury. Jamar Gillispie led the way for Ridge View with 22 points, 17 coming in the second half. Jared Johnson (11) and Raymond Jeter offered double-digit scoring support. Johnson’s total was a career high, and posted all of his points in the second half.
David Frazier scored 24 points for Irmo, and Jordan Roper added 15.
