Four-time defending state champion Lower Richland embarked on its latest postseason journey on Tuesday, whipping up on visiting Chapman 57-29 in the first round of the Class 3A state girls basketball playoffs.
Meanwhile, A.C. Flora, which shared first place with LR and Chester in the final Region 4-3A standings, rolled over visiting Clinton.
LR (16-6) received 16 points from Bea Williams and 12 from Ashley Edmond in the romp. The Diamond Hornets, who earned the top playoff seed out of 4-3A, will be at home again in second-round on Thursday against Pickens.
Debbie Stroman’s team, by the way, moved into a tie for seventh place on the all-time, all-classification postseason win list. The Diamond Hornets pulled even with Seneca with 45 playoff wins on the board. Columbia is at the top of the charts with 62 playoff victories.
Flora (20-4) received double-digit scoring marks from Kim Roach (15 points) and Bria Kitt (11) in its sixth straight first-round playoff win. Next up, the Falcons hit the road on Thursday for the long trip to Daniel. The Region 1 champion Lions crushed Greenville 75-37 last night.
Roach leads the Falcons with a 15.5 scoring average, while Kyeshia Dawkins stands at 8.7 ppg.
