A.C. Flora lost to Wando in the IP Classic baseball tournament championship game on Sunday in Georgetown. The Warriors prevailed 11-4 in the finale. The Falcons finished with a 2-2 overall record in the annual preseason event and won the Class 3A division championship.
Connor Lewis and Player Loving were the ACF players selected to the all-tournament team, and Duy Hao Phan was named to the all-academic team.
Lewis went 1-1 in two starts on the mound, and went 9-for-14 at the plate with seven RBIs, two doubles and two home runs. Loving made the grade based on his one pitching stint – a five-hitting three-hitter in a 12-1 over Belton Honea-Path that sent Flora on to the championship game.
Phan, the Falcons starting shortstop and No. 2 hitter in the batting order, was 5-for-14 with four RBIs and three runs scored.
Catcher David Houser, third baseman States Clawson and second baseman Roy Faulks all had solid offensive performances. Houser went 5-for-13 with three doubles and a home run. Clawson hit .500 (6-for-12) with four runs scored and four RBIs. Faulks, who did not play in the tournament opener, was 3-for-8 with three runs and two RBIs in the final three games.
The Falcons used seven pitchers in the four games. Russell Gahagen was the starter in the second game – a 4-3 loss to Riverside. Lewis and Stephen Cagle were the only two Falcons hurlers to work in two games.
