Richland Northeast is looking for a rebound campaign in 2011 after missing the state playoff for the second year in a row and finishing with a losing record (9-15) for the first time in memory.
The Cavaliers expected to have eight varsity regulars in the fold when the new season begins next spring. RNE will also be moving into a new region, joining up against with Richland 2 district rivals Spring Valley, Ridge View and Blythewood once again, along with Irmo, Dutch Fork and Lugoff-Elgin.
“It was a tough year is a tough region, but our young players gained valuable experience,” said Cavs coach Thane Maness.
RNE bids farewell to three seniors – long-time shortstop Brett Fulmer (.375 batting average, 25 runs scored, 16 RBIs), Josh Landry (.262, 11 RBI) and all-region pitcher/first baseman Miles Fisher (.358, 18 R, 14 RBI).
The returning cast features all-region catcher Domineke Albert (.370, 27 R, 14 RBI, 18 SB), third baseman Jason Mohn (.258, 16 R, 10 RBI), second baseman Kevin Fulmer, first baseman Jason Washburn, center fielder Shawn Carrion (.288, 15 R, 10 SB) and outfielders Justin Voelklm Michael Meir and Jonah Landry.
