Chapin’s softball revival continued in 2010 under second-year coach Jason Jolley. The Eagles won the Region 4-3A championship and a district playoff title for the second year in a row and finished with a 26-6 record.
Still, it was not a fulfilling campaign.
“It was a good season but our goal was to win the state so we were disappointed,” said Jolley.
“Next year, we’ll have lots of experience returning and we should all be very hungry to go all the way.”
Taylor Morgan, Whitley Martin, Sam Boland, Savannah Frick and Brittany Barr were Chapin’s all-region picks. Barr was named the region player of the year for the second season in a row. Barr and Morgan made the CAWS all-state team for the second straight season. Barr was also selected to play in the North-South All-Star game after hitting .352 with 34 runs and 28 RBIs, not to mention going 13-0 with a 1.90 ERA in the circle.
Jenna Taylor, and Lauren Barton are the only other departing senior starters.
Morgan (13-6, 3 saves, 0.82 ERA, 219 Ks, 111 IP; .432, 35 runs, 23 RBIs, 3 HR); Sam Boland (.361, 29 runs, 20 RBIs), Taylor Matthews (.288) Whitley Martin (.406, 36 runs, 32 RBIs), Savannah Frick (.325, 22 runs, 21 RBIs), Addy Schelble (.325, 19 runs, 21 RBIs) and Natalie Harper (.333) are all expected to return in 2011 when Chapin shifts to tough Region 5-3A along with Brookland-Cayce, Airport and Midland Valley.
