Pelion closed a successful 2010 baseball season with a 17-10 overall record.
“We would have liked to go farther in playoffs, but the season was a success,” said Panthers coach Barry Fogle.
“We had probably as tough a schedule as Pelion has ever played and in only three games did we give up five or more runs. If we fill in a couple of holes, I’d say the 2011 season looks bright.”
Pelion bids farewell to three senior starters – Ken Smoak, Chris Dillow, and Matthew Williamson.
Smoak (.351, 24 R, 5-2, 1.62 ERA) shared team MVP honors with Wesley Camp. Dillow (.346, 19 RBI) was named to the Region 5-2A all-star team. Williamson was named the team’s top defensive player.
The veteran foundation of next year’s team figures to include Camp (.325, 26 R, 12 RBI, 7-5, 1.35 ERA), Cody Kyzer (.343, 16 R, 13 RBI), Matthew Kumangai (.377, 17 R, 17 RBI), Brandon Earwood (.385, 16 R, 15 RBI) and Corey Boren (1-1, 1.40 ERA).
Kumangai joined Dillow on the all-region team. Kyzer received the team Coach’s Award, and Earwood was cited as the team’s top offensive player.
