Columbia notes: The Capitals are coming off a 7-4 season with a disappointing first-round playoff exit for the second year in a row … The offensive should be back in form this season with a veteran offensive line opening holes for prime running back DeErik Bradley figures to be Columbia’s go-to guy in the backfield … Kemper Amick is 85-54 in 12 seasons as the Caps head coach. He is the longest tenured and winningest coach in modern school history.
Lower Richland notes: The Diamond Hornets, coming off a 2-8 campaign, are again under new management again. New head coach Wayne Farmer has a proven track record as a program makeover artist. He turned losing programs at Elloree, Denmark-Olar and Allendale-Fairfax into winners. A-F went 37-11 under Farmer in a tough Class 1A region during the past four seasons … Forget the spread, look for the Diamond Hornets to go old-school on the attack this season.
Series history: The series resumes for the first time in 29 years. The teams last met in 1981 when both were still playing at the Class 4A level. LR won five of the seven meetings in the modern era between 1976 and 1981.
