COLUMBIA AT PALMETTO
Columbia notes: The Capitals (7-4) brought a two-game first round playoff losing streak to an end last week with a 28-21 Class 2A playoff road win at Indian Land against the 9-1 Warriors Columbia rolled up 351 yards on offense last week, 231 coming on the ground. DeErik Bradley ran for 185 yards and one touchdown on 34 carries. QB Ky Tyler didn’t throw a lot, but was quite productive. The junior was 7-for-9 passing for 120 yards and three TDs. Casey Gladney accounted for all of the receptions.
Palmetto notes: The Mustangs (9-2) are enjoying their best season since 2002, and scored their first playoff win since 2005 last week – a 21-14 decision vs. Emerald Palmetto relies heavily on the ground game, but QB Hunter Green tossed two scoring passes to Dominique Mosley last week. Jovan Owens is the main man of the running game, ringing up 894 yards, scoring 12 touchdowns and averaging 6.9 yards per carry during the regular season. Owens posted 117 yards and one scoring run last week ve. Emerald.
Playoff history: Columbia sports a 16-20 playoff record in the modern era, while Palmetto is 14-16. The Mustangs have made it past the second round just two times since 1970, the last time in 2003. Palmetto won the 1970 Class 3A state championship. Columbia has not advanced to a state title game in the modern era.
