Lexington opened the girls basketball season with a 51-35 win over archrival Irmo on Friday night.
Senior veterans Jasmine Pinckney, Laura Beth Neal and Morgan Hause led the way. Combining for 39 points. Pinckney, who averaged 10 points, four assists and three steals last season, fired in 15 points to take game scoring honors. Neal, who averaged eight points a game last season, tallied 11 and Hause, who scored at a seven-point-a-game clip last season, pumped in13 vs. the Yellow Jackets.
Lexington finished strong after getting off to a slow star – winning six of its last eight to close at 13-9 overall. But the Wildcats, who went 7-7 in region play, just missed the state playoff cut.
“We return seven players and our goal is to win the region championship,” said coach David Long, who is 127-70 in eight seasons in charge.
Never miss a local story.
Pinckney and Neal are returning all-region players.
Juniors Janai Pinckney and Erin Munn and sophomore Allison Kay are the other returning varsity players.
