Sumter sets area pace at DF tournament

The Gamecocks lead all Midlands entries with a second-place team finish and four individual champions.

Sumter and Dutch Fork headlined the Midlands story at the 15-team Silver Foxes Invitational wrestling tournament last weekend at Dutch Fork.

Sumter finished in second place behind tournament champion Beaufort, while the host Silver Foxes finished third.

The Gamecocks emerged with an area high of four individual champions – Matt Devine (140), Hayden Raabe (152), Trevor Jahnke (215) and Koree Pollard. BiQuan Sumpter (145) and T.J\. Colvin (160) were the team’s other finalists. Levi Leslie (103) was DF’s lone champion, but Bryson Meier (112), Josh Davis (130), Colin Studemeyer (140) and heavyweight Auntrell Mack all advanced to the championship finals.

In other Midlands highlights, Spring Valley’s Nick Benson was the 125 champion, while Brookland-Cayce’s Austin Keane (103), Swansea’s Kaylin McCarson (119), Richland Northeast’s Brandon Benitez (135) and Airport’s Ross Quigley (152) and Antoine Kelly (171) claimed runner-up honors.
